Prysmian and Rio Tinto agreed to supply power cables made with ELYSIS inert-anode aluminum for an Amazon data center in Ohio, Reuters reported. Prysmian said the process eliminates direct greenhouse-gas emissions from aluminum smelting and releases oxygen instead.
Prysmian described the installation as the first known use of the technology in a data center. The finished cables will be manufactured at the company's Sedalia, Missouri, plant, bringing a lower-carbon primary material into the physical infrastructure behind cloud and AI computing.
