South Korea proposes nearly doubling public AI investment

Reuters reported that the proposed allocation covers semiconductors, physical AI and AI data centres and is nearly twice the current-year amount. The wider budget would increase spending 12.8% to a record 820.9 trillion won.

The plan also includes a 162.3 trillion won Future Response Fund, supported largely by extra tax revenue from the semiconductor boom. The figures remain a proposal subject to parliamentary approval rather than committed project spending.
