BMW said prototypes of its next iX5 Hydrogen are undergoing comprehensive real-world testing while the company advances industrialisation of the third-generation fuel-cell system. Assembly work is moving into its next phase at the Munich pilot plant, and Plant Steyr is preparing processes for planned series production.

Those figures remain manufacturer targets for a prototype program; final homologated specifications, market availability and hydrogen-station access will determine everyday usefulness.
