IonQ announced that a photonic interconnect between a trapped-ion qubit and a solid-state silicon-vacancy quantum memory exceeded 1,000 entanglement events per second. The company says the hybrid link combines the coherence of trapped ions with efficient optical coupling from solid-state memory.
IonQ said the rate is more than four times the previous trapped-ion record and referred to a technical paper based on hardware tests. The result is an early research milestone rather than a deployed quantum network, and the performance claims come from the company and its collaborators.
