Defence Industry Europe reported that the AN/URN-32 and AN/URN-33 systems provide direction and distance information to aviators in poor weather and other demanding conditions. During the shortage, Navy engineers moved Series 1 amplifiers from land sites to operational ships, while new vessels received newer Series 2 equipment.

Thales added test benches and specialist staff to speed repairs, and engineers aligned the interfaces of the two hardware generations through software changes. The Navy said the maintenance backlog has been cleared and cited the joint performance-tracking approach as a model for handling supply-base disruption.
